Lecture Hitting laptops with drumsticks: approaches to performing with drums and electronics – Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel – Brussel – 22/11/23

Rodrigo Constanzo will present some of his recent works focussing on using drums and electronics in a live performance context. This work is grounded in interdisciplinary research including audio analysis, machine learning, digital fabrication/CAD, with a nice detour into turntablism and DJ culture and how to reappropriate and recycle instrumental virtuosity in digital instrument design. This will specifically cover the composition Kaizo Snare for amplified snare, electronics, and robotics, as well as including some older works involving hacked CD players and reactive DMX lighting.
